Best of Care,
Best of People

Here at Medway, we pride ourselves on working together as one to ensure that our shared vision of Better, Best, Brilliant is achieved. We are a single-site hospital based in Gillingham, Medway Maritime Hospital, which serves a population of more than 424,000 across Medway and Swale.

With strong leadership the day to day experience for our teams is a great one, staff are valued, excellent quality care is provided and the passion for continuous improvement is high.

Our Trust is a great choice for people who want to develop their career in an ambitious and dynamic environment; we also offer an excellent benefits package which includes onsite childcare facilities, various salary sacrifice schemes and a generous annual leave entitlement.

Flexible working opportunities within the Trust are on the rise, giving employees flexibility on where, when and the hours they work. Timewise Power 50 awards celebrate the achievements of senior business leaders who work part-time, at Medway NHS Foundation Trust we are proud that one of our very own consultant anaesthetists was recognised as Power Part-Timers 2019.

We provide clinical services to almost half a million patients a year:
More than

Emergency Department attendances
More than

More than

outpatients appointments
More than

As an NHS Foundation Trust, we have a 24-strong Council of Governors and more than 10,000 public members.

We employ around 4,400 staff, making us one of Medway’s largest employers.

We currently have 188 apprenticeships in the organisation, ranging from
 level 3 to level 7.

Close to 400 volunteers provide invaluable support across the League of Friends, Hospital Radio and the Voluntary Services Department.

The hospital is made up of two clinical divisions – Unplanned and Integrated Care and Planned Care – supported by corporate functions.

Each clinical division has a dedicated leadership team comprising Divisional Director of Operations, Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Director of Nursing. The Board of directors, led by Chair Stephen Clark, comprises nine executive directors including James Devine, Chief Executive, and seven non-executive directors including the Chair.

One of the many reasons I choose to work for Medway is to make a difference in delivering high quality care, empowering staff, being a good role model.
